This bold quilt is non-traditional in that all the fabrics are solid. The colors are navy blue, pale blue, and gold, with off-white for the background. I like the thinner navy line in the border. I made this quilt for my teenage son.
This quilt is machine quilted. To allow me to begin on the next quilt top sooner, I generally prefer to machine quilt or tie my quilts rather than to quilt them by hand. For this reason, my quilts have a homespun look. To quilt with my sewing machine, I first pin all the layers of the quilt together. Then I machine stitch along the edges of the sashes and also inside each block. I choose lines for machine quilting that accentuate the design of the block. For some blocks I sew around a center square. For others I sew one horizontal line and one vertical line through the center of the block. Next I stitch along the seams of the border(s) and bind the edges of the quilt.
Moving your mouse over the quilt image shows the names of the block patterns used in the quilt, and clicking on this image takes you to detailed information on these patterns.
