Ultimaze 2.0

the most powerful and versatile maze software on the market today. - Brian Fuelleman

Welcome to Edwards Software, home of Ultimaze 2.0 shareware for Macintosh OS 8, 9, and 10, Laura Edwards' Art, Nadine Edwards' Quilt Sampler, and Nadine Edwards' Recipes. Ultimaze 2.0 is a maze game and editor that allows you to design, play, print, and export custom mazes for your students, family, newsletter, newspaper, magazine, web site, customers, or friends. You can use Ultimaze to design invitations, teach children, motivate readers, entertain customers, immortalize memories, and just have fun. See our pictorial archive for many more examples of mazes created with Ultimaze 2.0. Your imagination is the limit!

Ultimaze 2.0 introduces dozens of new features over Ultimaze 1.0, including the ability to add color, text, and pictures to your mazes, and including a complete user's guide. A description of the capabilities of Ultimaze 2.0 follows, with new features labeled by red asterisks (*).

Draw custom maze shapes: With Ultimaze, you can choose the overall maze shape from a list of predefined shapes, or you can customize the shape. The maze shape is made up of individual square tiles, which can be added or removed.

Draw your own maze paths, or generate them automatically: After you specify the overall shape and the starting and ending points, you can draw maze paths through this shape manually or generate them automatically. Or, you can draw some of paths manually and let the computer generate the rest! Paths are drawn by adding and removing maze walls, the line segments that separate adjacent tiles.

* Color your maze: You can add up to 64 colors to your custom tile palette, and use these colors to paint the tiles of your maze. You can also paint the maze walls using a similar custom wall palette. You can choose each palette color from among millions of possible colors.

* Add text to your maze: You can add instructions, a story line, and annotations by adding text boxes to your maze. For each text box, you can select the font, size, alignment, and color of the text, the colors being chosen from a custom palette.

* Add pictures to your maze: To add visual appeal, you can import photographs, clip art, and textures in a variety of formats (JPEG, PICT, TIFF, etc.) into your maze. Using the transparent tile color, you can even place an image in the maze background. And to help you design stunning mazes, we provide dozens of JPEG shapes, textures, titles, and toys.

* Arrange maze elements: You can move and resize each text box and picture in your maze, move and resize the maze itself, and choose which of any two overlapping objects will appear front-most on the screen.

Solve mazes using powerful tools: To help you quickly solve mazes onscreen, you can display the paths you have tried, move forward automatically to the next intersection, and return directly to any previous location using the mouse. You can also ask Ultimaze to find the solution for you.

Share your mazes: Mazes may be saved, printed, and exported in a variety of formats (PICT, JPEG,* TIFF,* etc.) into programs such as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Corel Draw, Corel Painter, Macromedia Freehand, Microsoft Word, or Quark Xpress, for inclusion in newsletters, educational materials, websites, games, etc., or to add special effects. For examples, see Earth Day Maze or Treasure Maze Birthday Party Invitation by Brian Fuelleman.

Try before you buy: An unregistered copy of Ultimaze 2.0 software has all of the features described above for mazes up to 20 x 20 tiles. An unregistered copy also allows you to open and solve (but not modify, print, or export) larger mazes up to 200 x 200 tiles, including all of the mazes in the archive. Registering your copy enables you to open, modify, solve, print, and export mazes up to 200 x 200 tiles, to submit your mazes to the archive, to sell or distribute your mazes freely with no royalties or acknowledgments due to Edwards Software, and to receive free technical support.
